Tap the strings. See the tension.
Hold your phone close to the string bed and tap the strings. Tension Tap turns the ping into a tension in pounds and kilograms. Calibrate once after a restring and every reading matches your stringer's number.

Your stringer's number, then every drop after it.
Right after a restring, enter the tension you strung at and take one set of taps. A racquet strung at 55 lb then reads 55 lb.
Each reading is the average of five taps. You see how far apart they were, and a set that doesn't agree is flagged.
When a tap can't be measured, the app says why: too quiet, too noisy, a damper on the strings, or a pitch outside that racquet's range.
A chart shows tension falling since the last stringing, and the racquet is marked once it drops past the point you choose.
Each sport has its own head sizes, string gauges and pitch range, with hybrids entered as separate mains and crosses.
Export every reading as a spreadsheet file through the share sheet. Nothing leaves your phone otherwise.
Three steps, about a minute.
Sport, head size, strings, and the tension it was strung at.
Five taps pin readings to your stringer's scale.
Any day after, five taps tell you how much tension is left.
Tension Tap estimates tension from the pitch of the string bed. It is a consistent way to track your racquets, not a laboratory instrument.

Why does an uncalibrated reading come out lower than my stringer's number?
A freshly strung racquet already holds noticeably less tension than the stringing machine pulled; friction in the weave and the frame flexing take some of it. Calibrate right after a restring and Tension Tap reads on your stringer's scale from then on.
How accurate is it?
It estimates tension from the pitch of the string bed. Each reading averages five taps and shows how far apart they were, so you can see when a number is solid. It is not a laboratory instrument.
Which racquets work?
Tennis, badminton and squash racquets whose strings ring when tapped. Take off any vibration damper first. Racquetball racquets with built-in dampers, padel and pickleball are not supported.
Does it record me?
No. The microphone is used only to hear the ping. Sound is analysed on the phone and never stored or sent. See the privacy policy.
Is there a subscription?
No. Tension Tap is a one-time purchase of US$2.99, with no subscription, account or ads. Prices outside the US vary by country or region.
