Plain Rows Support
Answers to the questions people ask most. Still stuck? Email kl@fireinbelly.com and say which iPhone and iOS version you use.
How do I export?
Tap a preset or open All data types and pick what you want, choose a date range and rows (every sample or daily summary), then tap Export. The first time, iOS asks which types Plain Rows may read. When the export is ready, tap Share or Save to Files.
Why does a type say "No data, or no permission for this type"?
iOS never tells apps whether you said no to a type, so an empty result can mean either. Check Settings › Privacy & Security › Health › Plain Rows and turn on the types you want, then tap Run again.
I asked for all time but only got the last 30 days.
When iOS asks how much data to share, you can pick the past 30 days or all recorded data. To change it, open Settings › Privacy & Security › Health › Plain Rows, tap Change Access, choose All Recorded Data, then tap Run again in Plain Rows.
My export is very large. Will it finish?
Yes. Plain Rows writes in batches and keeps memory flat, so years of data are fine; they just take longer. Keep the app open and your iPhone unlocked until it finishes: Health keeps its data locked while the phone is locked. If an export stops, the result names the type and date it reached and keeps everything written before that.
How do I open the files?
Numbers and Google Sheets open the CSV directly. For Excel, turn on Excel-friendly encoding so accents and symbols show correctly. Several types come as one ZIP; tap it in Files to unzip. The Spreadsheet date and time option writes plain local times that spreadsheets read as dates.
What's in each file?
One file per type. Every sample: type, start, end, value, unit, source. Daily summary: one row per day with a total (for things like steps) or the average, lowest and highest (for things like weight). Blood pressure keeps systolic and diastolic in one row; workouts include activity, duration, energy and distance.
Which units are used?
The units your Health app shows. To use another unit for one type (for example mmol/L instead of mg/dL), open Units on the main screen.
Can I try it without my own data?
Yes. Tap the info button, then turn on Use sample data. Exports then use built-in example readings and read nothing from Health.
Does Plain Rows upload or keep my data?
No. It has no server and no account. Files are deleted from the app at your next export or launch; the copy you share or save is yours.
