We reply within 2 business days. Tell us your device model, your iOS version and what you tried. There is no need to attach your photo.

How to use it

  1. Tap Select Photo and choose a photo in the iOS photo picker.
  2. Choose a target size: 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, or type any number of KB in Custom.
  3. Pick JPEG or PNG. Squish shows the Before and After file sizes and recompresses as soon as you change the size or the format.
  4. Tap Save to Photos to add the compressed copy to your library, or Share to send the file through the iOS share sheet.
  5. Tap New Photo to start again.

The target is a ceiling. Squish looks for the highest quality that still fits under the number you picked, so results land at or just under it. The After size is green when the file fits and orange when Squish could not get it that small.

Common questions

Where does the compressed photo go?

Save to Photos adds it to your photo library as a new photo, so look in Recents. Share hands the file to the iOS share sheet, named like squish-500kb.jpg, so you can send it by Mail, Messages or any other app. Your original photo is never changed.

Squish says photo library access is required to save.

Squish asks to add photos to your library the first time you tap Save to Photos. If you declined, open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Photos, then Squish, and allow it to add photos. Then tap Save to Photos again. Choosing a photo never needs permission, because the iOS photo picker hands Squish only the photo you pick.

The After size is orange and bigger than my target.

Squish could not get the photo that small. Try a larger target, because a very small target can be out of reach for a large photo. A JPEG can lower its quality as well as its size, while a PNG can only shrink by scaling the picture down.

The After size is a little under my target.

That is expected. Squish stops at the highest quality that fits, so the file can land a little under the number you picked.

My photo is already smaller than the target.

Squish says it is already under your target and keeps it at full quality.

Can I compress more than one photo at once?

No. Squish compresses one photo at a time. Tap New Photo after saving to do the next one.

Which formats can I use?

Squish opens the photos the iOS photo picker offers, including HEIC, JPEG and PNG, and saves JPEG or PNG. HEIC photos are saved as JPEG unless you switch to PNG.

Does Squish need an internet connection?

No. It has no networking code, so it works in airplane mode and nothing is uploaded. See the privacy policy.

Is there a subscription or an account?

No. Squish is a US$0.99 one-time purchase with no subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads and no account.

Does it work on iPad?

Yes. Squish has a layout made for iPad as well as iPhone, in light and dark mode. It needs iOS or iPadOS 16 or later.

Which languages is the app in?

English, German, French, Italian, Japanese and Portuguese.

How do I report a problem or suggest something?
